About "The Works"

The Works was started in June 2008 by Sheena, Rob & Family.

It was done with the intention of Linking Local people with Local Businesses, to encourage the communities to support the economy within Lincoln.

Robs experience of covering postal rounds throughout Lincoln gave him the knowledge of the areas.
We also ran VIPPIES Pet Services, a dog walking and pet sitting business.

VIPPIES used local community magazines in other areas but struggled to get in their parish magazine as it was always full. During a conversation on marketing Sheena said to Rob "we should start our own business directory then we would be able to get the advertising in the areas we need".

Sheena and Rob researched the viablilty of producing a directory which was solely for advertisers and not a community magazine. Having received a positive response through contacting local businesses and providing them with a sample of how the directory would look their first publication hit the street in September 2008 in the Branston Area.

Not only did the advertisers start to receive calls for work from the local people but The Works was inundated by interest from businesses within the area along with advertisiers renewing their contracts because of the response they had received.

Due to the success of the Branston directory and to coincide with our move to Reepham we identified there wasn’t a directory in this area either so in January 2009 we started a directory covering the Cherry Willingham and surrounding area.

With the continued growth of the directories and listening to our advertisers we have now expanded the publications to 6 areas giving businesses the ability to target over 31000 homes and businesses around Lincoln.

The Works only employs local people with a knowledge of the areas. This ensures the delivery of the directory every month.
